I mistakenly hit a low stump today with the tractor that bent the front edge of the deck into the middle blade. The middle spindle was sheared off (see pics) as well as one of the pins on the hitch. It was a pretty hard hit
After disassembly it was apparent one bearing was less than optimal. The major problem however was that the arbor had worn down over 1/8" per side under the suspect bearing, so that it was literally spinning "free" on the pulley side. Although both bearings were "OK", I decided to replace them.
After removing the pulley cage, loosen and remove pulley bolts. Pulleys use a cartridge bearing, use care when removing seal. Clean all parts in a degreaser. Pack grease into seals of pulleys and reinstall seals.
